The Past Week

2 Fridays ago I went to Lora’s wonderful Yoga C2 and then drove over to Palmer Park to enjoy a nice long run. My run was tough, first one in a while, but when I made it back to my car I was greeted with an extremely unpleasant surprise. I had dumbly left my purse on the front seat of my car– granted my purse is a recycled burlap bag– and someone decided it would be worth it to break into my car and grab my purse. However that was not the only thing that was removed from my vehicle. My car keys amongst other items were removed from my vehicle. As soon as I realized that my car had been broken into I felt empty, lost and hurt. All I could do was cry and wonder around wondering why. I called the police and gave them all the info they needed about what was in my car etc and some how magically persuaded the officer to send someone over to finger print my car and see where that went. For some reason after the officer left after pulling prints from my car big hooray!, I had a wave of calm flood over me. A week went by and I didn’t hear anything from the Police Department, but during that whole weak I continued to try and rid myself from the pain and frustration that had built up from the whole incident. On Thursday I came home and Matt told me that police had called, they wanted to see me down at the station. They had my wallet at the counter. I was so excited I couldn’t stop jumping around! On the ride over I looked at Matt and said, “Ya know it’s interesting during this whole thing I never hated the person who did this to me. Yes I was upset and confused, but I never truly hated them.” In yoga I was able to find room in my heart and realize they were not out to get me, they just wanted my stuff. And it’s just that, stuff. I am so proud of myself and a little amazed that I was even able to realize that this person did not need to be hated. To top off this wonderful realization my concerns of someone stealing my car (because my keys were stolen but the police had them and returned them to me) were washed away the minute I saw then officer walk around the corner with my keys.

This last week, in regards to my car, was a wonderful learning lesson and very freeing.

Hi, my name is Cody/Coco/Coconino/tofu/Granola/Fishy/ Super Pollo/ (Jessie– my sister is Jess and sometimes I am called that, and I will most likely respond) — I’ve got a lot of nicknames Any who, I grew up in the most beautiful place ever, Buena vista, CO! I lived on a ranch/summer camp for 12 years and then moved next door when my parents started The Link School. I graduated high school from BVHS in 2009 and have spent my freshman year of college at the University of Colorado Denver. I originally was planning on majoring in photography but after first semester I realized that 1) that wasn’t what I wanted to do and 2) downtown denver was not for me. So now I am going to be attending the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs focusing on majoring in Environmental Science with a minor in Business Management for Sustainable Development. I can’t wait to start next fall, I have all these great plans for growing some of my own herbs and spices, trying to buy locally, just cooking for myself in general!! But I must say that this year I have made 2 of my greatest friends in the world– Tanisha Cocetti and Erica Medina. These two lovely ladies have put up with my craziness from my weird recycling habits, eating habits and god forbid going to bed before midnight and getting up before 9 am I love them both to death!! Tanisha comes from an italian family and makes really really really yummy food!!! I swear we went over to her house one night, she just rummaged through the fridge, pulled out random stuff and threw it in the pot of what she was claiming to be risotto… I gotta say it was AMAZING. That actually doesn’t begin to cover it. It was spectacular, possibly heavenly YUM! Miss Erica is from Pueblo and loves her dogs Philip and Ms. Lilly– they are pretty cute even if they are small. She wants to become a lawyer and won’t major in anything else! She is always wearing super cute dresses and skirts– I wish I had her wardrobe!

I am still dating the most amazing guy in the world, Matt. Right now we only get to see each other some times on the weekends because I chose not to go to UCCS this year where he is– but that is all changing this fall! He and I work together at the new hit restaurant in BV, The Eddyline Restaurant and Brew Pub. Come check it out! It has really good food and for those of you over 21 great beer. Ok back to Matt. It is hard for me to find people who are exactly like me and I must say he is pretty darn close. We both LOVE to go camping and be in the wilderness. He is an amazing raft guide and cook. He can actually throw pizza dough in the air and catch it– lucky! Plus he is super adorable! and he claims I am the best buddle cubbie in the world!! Oh and he drives a Subaru! He is planning on majoring in history and then possibly going on to get his PH.D. I must say that not learning anything in U.S history my junior year of high school has really put me back a few steps in the history realm, but that’s ok cause Matt is always catching me up– thanks love.

Hmm, well less about my life recently. In 2006 my family and I walked from Canada to Mexico along the Continental Divide with our 2 donkeys and our dog. It was the trip of a lifetime and I hope that some day I will be able to do it again. In 2008 I got to watch Manchester United play Aston Villa at Old Tratford! That was amazing! I didn’t even care it was pouring rain– I got to watch Man U. LIVE! On that same trip I got to go to my family’s homeland of Wales, beautiful place. Then that summer Jess and I were graced with the opportunity to travel to Switzerland– another beautiful place that I would love to go back to and see more of. When I was in middle school I got to travel to asia and south america– those were both super fun trips! I have been to Greneda down near Venezuela. Also in middle school my family and I got to head up to the Yukon and go dog sledding. Hmm I have rafted all of the Green and all of the Colorado rivers– minus the Grand Canyon, but that is on the list of things to do.

Oh and as mentioned before my parents now run The Link School the coolest high school ever! They just got back from the Grand Canyon. They have been to Peru, Mexico and are going to Spain and Turkey next year!! check out their website– thelinkschool.org

Yoga

There is something so peaceful and relaxing about waking up in the morning and doing yoga dor an hour in a room full of people searching for and soaking in the calm, just like you. I have been attending yoga at a local studio for the past 3 weeks and I must say I can feel the difference in my life. It is amazing, I can’t really put into words how much I love yoga and that I pretty sure I was designed to do yoga. I lode it and recommend to anyone who reads this to go out and try it. I hope that everyone has a beautiful day filled with peace.

Puzzle Quote

I was just browsing a friend’s facebook page and my eyes fell upon this quote she had posted, “Life is one giant puzzle, once you think you can see how all the pieces fit, an earthquake come along in your life and scatters all the pieces around again. All you really need to know is no matter how long it takes or how hard it is, the work building your puzzle is much more fun then sitting there looking at it. In the end all the pieces fit together and make your own picture of life.” Not sure where she got it but I love it!

What “The Cove” has triggered in my mind

Just finished watching The Cove, the 2010 best documentary of the year. I must say that movie has stirred somethings within myself that I hadn’t really bothered to consider. Not only is it frustrating to see such horrible acts towards animals, 1) it amazes me how secretive the people from Taiji are about this whole thing! And 2) while watching this I realized that even though I am a vegetarian for most meats or an extremely sustainable eater for others, fish was something that I never really took time to think about in my eating habits. It finally hit me tonight that many people have asked me if I eat fish when I tell them I am a vegetarian and of course I say yes because I do, but I never took my reasons for why I didn’t any other meat and apply them to fish… until tonight. I must say that it is a little sad that it wasn’t until I watched a movie about dolphin killing that I hadn’t truly thought through my eating choices entirely. I think that for myself I really want to strive becoming an extremely sustainable meat eater– most likely applying to chicken and fish mainly, turkey on thanksgiving, but that’s it. It is time for me to stop half assing the vegetarian or, actually sustainable eater, life style and actually stick to what I declare I am– if that makes any sense at all.

So for those of you reading this, this is a declaration that I am going to do my best, regardless of how yummy something looks, to only eat sustainable meat.

June is almost complete, which is a little scary to think about. It seems like just yesterday that Jess graduated, Matt and I went camping and rafting with friends from school, that the FIFA World Cup started. June has been, for the most part, exactly what I had hoped this summer would be. Minus Matt dislocating his shoulder we have had an great summer so far. We have been at work, and just hanging out. Matt has been promoted to grill cook, which is very exciting. We have watched lots of soccer in the last few weeks– Matt even watched– and I have been running with the donkey, sorry walking with the donkey a lot. There is something so nice about having only one job, where if you have an evening shift, it doesn’t matter if you get up at 1o a.m. That has been so nice. To add to my wonderful month of June so far, Jess has officially become an adult, my cousin Shelby turned 18 as well and graduated high school, which we are all very proud of. On my birthday Matt took me to dinner at Global Cafe, and oh my goodness it was good. We had ahi tuna with the chip type things for an appetizers then I had Cajun Shrimp Pasta and Matt got a steak. Then when we got home we had a German Chocolate Cupcake that Deanna from work made us. That was one of the most delicious meals in my life, writing this is making my mouth water. Oh! back to the nice things about work, I am now one of the dessert makers. It has been really fun to learn how to make desserts like Creme Brule, Lava Cake, Chocolate Moose, and I still have to learn how to make Lemon Creme Raspberry Parfait, Bread Pudding and Tiramasu. Well I think I probably should start getting ready for work.

Jess’s Graduation

Tonight my sister graduated from high school. She looked beautiful and had the world’s biggest smile on her face all night. I was asked to write her a letter so here it is:

Jessie Faith:

In the last 2 years at Link you have achieved so much. You have grown to be a wonderful young woman, let your brilliance shine, traveled around the globe, and have shown that you truly are ready to enter the world as an individual. While here you have made life long friends, expanded your love for the world, seen and experienced things that absolutely amaze both me and most everyone else too. Along with that you have become an outstanding leader and are a very strong young woman. To add to your list of amazingness you are the first 14 year old to ever walk the Continental Divide Trail all the way through.

You have an incredible ability to write and an enthusiastic sense of adventure. You care deeply for those around you and show great interest in the new people you meet. I look forward to seeing who you will become in the years ahead, be it a rancher in the southern plains of Colorado, a writer in New York, an environmentalist seeking the greater good for our planet, or even a mom. All of theses things speak to your personality and I think that someday you will achieve them all.

I am so proud of you for graduating today, you look beautiful. You have truly earned your diploma.

Congratulations Jessie Faith. I love you.

I can’t begin to put into more words how proud I am of her. She is an amazing person– if you know her you know what I am talking about. Today May 28, 2010 was an amazing day because my little sister graduated from high school. Congrats again.

Satisfaction

There is something satisfying about preparing for a test, spending hours studying, and then completing the test. I have just completed my third out of five finals. My art history class– the one I just finished– pushed me more than I knew was possible this year, taught me how to write good papers, take efficient notes, and study in a way that the final product is an A on my transcripts. And a plus I absolutely loved my teacher, Marnie Gloor. She was an awesome teacher!

Only 2 more finals to go and then I can add my freshman year of college to my list of things completed!
